About Allegro Winery
Allegro is one of the older wineries in southern York County. Bill planted the vineyard in 1973, John and Tim bought the property in 1978 and opened the winery in 1981, and Kris and Carl have run it since 2001. The list covers dry reds, whites and rosé, semi-sweet and sweet wines, fortified wines and a line of fruit drinks called Allegro Unplugged, and there's an Allegro Brewery Taproom on site too.
The tasting room on Vineyard Road is open daily, with indoor seating and outdoor tables in good weather. Wine is sold by the glass or bottle to enjoy on the grounds, along with cheese, charcuterie, crackers and tapenade. From May through October, live music plays on the front lawn on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4, rain or shine; it's free, needs no ticket, moves into the taproom in bad weather, and food trucks often come along.
Families are welcome: anyone under 21 can come with an adult relative, and well-behaved dogs on a leash can join you outdoors. Some ticketed events are 21 and older. Outside food and drinks, coolers, water bottles and insulated cups are not allowed. Tastings are limited to groups of six or fewer, and limos and passenger vans are not accepted. Allegro also pours a small rotating selection at its wine shop inside Brown's Orchard and Farm Market.
Abraham's Battlefield Lavender near Gettysburg is the nearest lavender farm on our list, about an hour west; check its open days before planning the two together.
