About Shady Maple
Shady Maple is a cluster of food businesses on an 11-acre plaza in East Earl, in the farm country of eastern Lancaster County. Its smorgasbord calls itself the largest buffet in the country, with more than 200 feet of food, and the farm market across the plaza has been a community fixture for over 50 years. In summer the market buys a large share of its produce from farms within about 10 miles.
The buffet runs Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m., with breakfast until 10, lunch from 10:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and dinner from 4 p.m. to a last seating at 7:30. Weeknight dinners follow themes: steak on Monday, seafood on Tuesday, prime rib on Wednesday, ribs and wings on Thursday and the full menu on Friday. As posted on their website in 2026, weekday lunch was $20.99 and dinners $27.99 to $30.99, plus tax and a 12% service fee in place of tipping; children 3 and under eat free and ages 4 to 10 pay half.
The farm market, open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and closed Sunday, has a bakery turning out shoofly pies, whoopie pies and daily donuts, a smokehouse with in-store butchers, a 50-foot deli case and aisles of bulk foods, candy and spices. Below the smorgasbord, the 44,000-square-foot gift shop opens at 9 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. on Saturdays. Groups of 15 or more can reserve buffet seating, mostly on weekdays.
Baron Hills Lavender Farm in Honey Brook is about 20 minutes east on country roads. It grows about a thousand plants of four varieties for bouquets, candles and soaps, so check its website for open days and pair it with a market stop.
