About The Mullen Dairy & Creamery
The Mullen Dairy & Creamery is a family dairy on Hamilton Scipio Road in Okeana, in western Butler County. The farm has been in the Mullen family for about 125 years, and Emily Mullen, part of the fourth generation, leads it today. More than 80 cows live in the new barn behind the farm store.
The farm is best known for flavored milk, bottled from its own herd. Flavors rotate, but cookies and cream, cotton candy and chocolate stay popular all year, with others such as blueberry, vanilla bean, chocolate banana and orange creamsicle, and seasonal ones like pumpkin pie in fall. You can sample flavors in the store. Its milk also turns up in a handful of local shops, including Schaefer's Farm Market in Trenton.
A visit is hands-on. You can walk through the barn to see the cows, schedule a tour to watch the dairy equipment at work, pet a calf and even try calf yoga. The store sells farm decor from local artisans along with lotions, soaps and lip balm made with the farm's milk. Seasonal events include bedtime stories, spring Easter egg hunts, a fall pumpkin patch with hayrides, and Christmas with the Cows.
