About Thies Farm & Greenhouses
Thies Farm has grown food for St. Louis since 1885. Its base is a 17-acre piece of the original family farm on North Hanley Road beside Interstate 70, now ringed by the city, and there is a second location on Greens Bottom Road in St. Charles. The farm picks its produce ripe and sells it the same day, without waxes or preservatives.
Picking runs from late spring into fall. Strawberries open for U-pick in late May at both locations and last into mid-June. At North Hanley, black and red raspberries follow in late June, and blackberries and peaches run from late June or early July into early August. The cut-flower field opens in mid-July with sunflowers, zinnias and snapdragons priced by the stem, and the apple orchard opens for picking in September, with Honeycrisp among the early varieties. There is no fee to enter the fields; apples are priced by weight, and bags, containers or buckets are handed out at check-in.
In October, Pumpkinland takes over with an Alice in Wonderland theme in 2026, a play area, a wagon ride, a corn maze and farm animals. Admission is $13 for everyone age 2 and up and includes a $2 voucher. Groups of 10 or more reserve ahead; teachers get one free admission per 15 children, and each child in a group takes home a small pumpkin. Through summer the market stocks tomatoes, sweet corn, peppers and okra, and August is the farm's pick for buying in bulk for canning.
Round Barn Lavender in O'Fallon is the nearest lavender farm on our list, about 30 minutes west on Interstate 70. Check its open days and pair it with a summer berry or peach pick here.
