About Turner Stillhouse

Turner Stillhouse opened in 2018, started by Justin Turner, a former New York finance executive with California winemaking roots who settled in Launceston after marrying a Tasmanian. The distillery bar sits in the Tamar Valley at Rosevears, about 15 minutes from Launceston, with views over the valley.

Three Cuts gin is distilled from a grape base, Tasmanian water and 12 botanicals, with roses as a signature note, and the vodka uses roses from the Tamar Valley. Rosevears Whisky is made from Tasmanian grain that is milled, mashed, distilled and aged on site. At the bar you can order a gin flight of four or six spirits, whisky flights of one to four drams, or cocktails such as a Tom Collins or Corpse Reviver No. 2, with Tasmanian cheese or antipasto boxes on the side.

Distillery tours run daily, usually at 11am and 1:30pm, last about an hour and finish with a tasting of gin, vodka and whisky. Closed-toe shoes are required on tours. Longer options pair the distillery with the neighboring Tamar Ridge cellar door, 20 meters away, for a combined wine and spirits tasting or a wine, spirit and cheese tour. You can also fill and label your own 500 ml bottle of whisky. Walk-ins are welcome for tastings and cocktails, and the venue is accessible. Families are welcome too, though tours may not suit younger children.

Lavender House Perfumery at Rowella is about 25 minutes north along the West Tamar, so the two make a good pairing for a day in the valley.
