✏️ Report outdated info

Wandin, Seville and Silvan sit on the hilly seam between the Yarra Valley and the Dandenong Ranges, about an hour east of Melbourne. It is cherry and berry country: family farms here have grown cherries since the 1890s, orchards run tractor tours through hundreds of fruit varieties, and the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail threads through the towns. To the south, the Dandenong Ranges' mountain ash forest hides small waterfalls and lyrebirds, and to the north are Healesville and the valley's dairies and galleries.

Warratina Lavender Farm on Quayle Road is the lavender stop, with homestead gardens, rows of lavender, a drying shed and a tea room known for lavender scones. Entry is free and it opens Wednesday to Sunday, 10 to 4. Peak flowering runs from mid-November to the end of December, which lines up with the start of cherry season on the neighboring farms.

Best time to visit

Southern Hemisphere seasons apply: come mid-November to late December for Warratina's lavender at its peak, when Wandin Valley Farms' cherry shop reopens (from November 7, 2026) and booked cherry picking starts at CherryHill (from November 2026) and Blue Hills (late November to early January). Spring (September to November) brings blossom: Blue Hills' Cherry Blossom Show ran September 25 to 27 in 2026, and Warratina's homestead gardens fill with bulbs and hellebores. Summer (December to February) is cherry and berry season and good for riding the rail trail early in the day. Through autumn and winter (March to August), Rayners Orchard still offers fruit tastings, and Sherbrooke and Olinda falls flow best after rain. In the Dandenong Ranges National Park, some areas close on nights from August 16 to November 19, 2026 for deer control.
