About Blue Hills Berries & Cherries

The Chapman family has farmed in Silvan since 1894, and Blue Hills is still family owned and run. The farm grows sweet cherries across two orchard sites, on George Road and Chapman Road, plus rows of strawberries, youngberries, boysenberries, blueberries and Morello sour cherries, and uses integrated pest management.

Seasons follow the Southern Hemisphere summer. Strawberries run from late October to April, blueberries from early December into January, youngberries through December, boysenberries from mid-December into January, and sour cherries from late December until picked out. Cherry picking at Chapman Road runs from late November to early January in two-hour sessions that must be booked online; entry is A$20 for adults, A$10 for children 5 to 14 and A$18 for seniors, and includes all you can eat in the orchard, a picking demonstration and bucket hire. Cherries you take home are weighed on the way out at A$18 a kilo. Berry picking is pay at the gate: A$15 for adults and A$7.50 for children, then A$12 a kilo for strawberries up to A$16 for blueberries and boysenberries.

Spring brings a three-day Cherry Blossom Show in late September (25 to 27 September in 2025), with a fairy garden, dress-up for kids, and wands and flower crowns sold on the day. During cherry season a food truck comes on weekends, with live music on December weekends, and there is a farm shop.

Warratina Lavender Farm in Wandin North is about 7 km north. Its lavender peaks from mid-November through December, the same weeks the cherries start, so the two pair well in early summer.
