About Battaglini Estate Winery

Battaglini Estate Winery farms 25 acres of very old Zinfandel and Petite Sirah on Piner Road in Santa Rosa. Italian immigrant Bartholomew Lagomarsino planted those vines from Tuscan stock in 1885, and his winery once made more than 130,000 gallons a year. Giuseppe "Joe" Battaglini, who grew up in his grandfather's vineyard in Tuscany, and his wife Lucia, raised among the vineyards of Mendoza, Argentina, bought the idle property in 1988. They planted Chardonnay in 1996 and released their first 250 cases that year from the 1994 Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. Production is now about 2,500 cases a year from head-pruned, hand-picked, unirrigated vines farmed without chemicals.

Tastings are by appointment. The standard tasting covers at least six wines for $40 per person; an $80 option adds a $50 credit toward bottles, and a $125 VIP visit adds a private tour, tastes from barrel and tank, a Swiss chocolate pairing and a 15 percent discount (prices posted in October 2026). Expect unoaked and oaked Chardonnay, a Rosato, the old-vine Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, and a late-harvest Chardonnay for dessert.

The tasting room is decorated with pictures of Italy and competition medals, antique Italian winemaking tools are set out around the grounds, and there is a bocce court. Each fall the family hosts a harvest celebration and grape stomp; in 2026 it was held on October 10 from 2 to 5 p.m.

Bees N Blooms, the organic lavender farm with a lavender labyrinth, is about 20 minutes south and west across Santa Rosa, which makes this one of the easiest winery and lavender pairings in Sonoma County.
