About Baugher's Orchards and Farms
Baugher's has been a Westminster farm since 1904, when Daniel and Mary Baugher started an orchard on what is now Baugher Road. Later generations grew it from the original 60 acres into a fruit business with two stops: the farm itself at 1015 Baugher Rd, home to the orchards, the Orchard Market, a bakery counter and a petting zoo, and an in-town restaurant and fruit market at 289 W. Main St that the family opened in 1948. Sweet apple cider is pressed on site.
Pick-your-own runs most of the warm season. Strawberries start around mid-May and last about a month, garden peas follow in early to mid-June, and sweet cherries come in mid to late June in limited amounts. Currants, gooseberries and jostaberries are picked in July, and blackberries run from July into early September. Apples, sunflowers (September through October) and pumpkins (October weekends) close out the year. You buy a container and entry at the ticket booth or market, then ride a wagon out to the field, where staff point you to the rows.
Back at the Orchard Market you'll find fruit, baked goods and Mrs. B's ice cream window, and the petting zoo sits right beside the market and keeps the same hours. Picnic areas and gazebos are open to visitors, though the farm doesn't host private parties or school tours. The in-town restaurant is open from early morning into the evening, with changing lunch specials, a soup of the day and a kids' menu, and doesn't need reservations except for banquets.
Serene Lavender Farm near Sykesville is about 25 minutes south, which makes a summer day of berry picking in the morning and lavender in the afternoon an easy loop through Carroll County.
