About E W Beck's Restaurant & Pub
E W Beck's has been a fixture of historic downtown Sykesville since 1992, when brothers Scott and Brian Beck opened it as a neighborhood tavern. The name honors generations of Beck men named Ernest William, and the idea came from the family's earlier place, Ernie's Tavern in Lansdowne. Scott has since retired, and two longtime staff members, Dan Feehan and Brian Wilbur, now run it alongside the family tradition.
The menu leans on pub classics with a Maryland accent: jumbo lump crab cakes, burgers and sandwiches. In fall the kitchen adds Oktoberfest plates like a house-breaded pork schnitzel with sage gravy and bacon-braised cabbage, a bratwurst on a pretzel bun with beer cheese, and house-smoked kielbasa, along with seasonal cocktails and mocktails.
Each weeknight has a theme. Monday is pizza night with five pies, including two specialties that change weekly; Tuesday brings a chef's taco with house-made chips and salsa; Wednesday is Beck Burger night, with an 8-ounce burger for $9; and Thursday features crab cakes. Weekday happy hour runs at the bar. Sunday brunch is served from 10:30 AM to 2 PM. The pub also caters and plans private parties, from birthdays and holiday gatherings to weddings.
Serene Lavender Farm is just a few miles from Main Street, about a 10-minute drive, so lunch or an early dinner here pairs well with a visit to the farm.
