About Boyne Valley Vineyards
Boyne Valley Vineyards is a small, family-owned tasting room tucked off US-131 between Walloon Lake and Petoskey. The entrance is easy to miss from the road, so look for the pale yellow 1952 Chevy truck parked on the bluff. The vineyard is surrounded by a 113-acre nature preserve, and the tasting room is a big barn with a patio, a lawn and a tree house where guests can sit.
The bar pours a range of northern Michigan wines plus hard cider. A tasting is four wines for $17 on quieter days; on Friday evenings from 3 PM, all day Saturday and during live music, wine is served by the glass only. Bottles are sold to go. Live music plays every weekend in the tasting room, on the patio, on the lawn or up in the tree house, and the posted schedule runs through December.
Food is snack-style: a charcuterie platter, burnt ends, pretzel balls, a cheese and cracker plate, hummus with naan and warm dips, with chocolate lava cake or a salted caramel cookie for dessert, plus coffee, cocoa and pop. Outside food and drinks, including coolers and insulated tumblers, aren't allowed. There are no reservations. Pets may stay outside on a 6-foot leash, and the vineyard's own dogs roam the grounds, so bring only dogs that get along with others.
Lavender Hill Farm near Boyne City is about 20 minutes west. From May through October it welcomes visitors daily, so you can walk the lavender fields first and come here for a glass and music in the late afternoon.
