About Delamere Vineyards

Delamere is a family-owned grower-producer in the Pipers River district of northeast Tasmania. Everything is grown, made and bottled on the estate. Co-owners and winemakers Shane Holloway and Fran Austin farm the vineyard entirely by hand, with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier planted closely, about 7,500 vines per hectare, on a steep, cold hill of red ironstone soil. Sparkling wine is a major focus, including non-vintage cuvées.

The cellar door is open Thursday to Monday, and Tuesday and Wednesday by appointment. Tastings come as flights of four wines in 35 mL pours. For a bigger outing, Delamere offers an extended tasting experience and a helicopter package. Booking is strongly advised for every visit and essential for groups of four or more; walk-ins are taken when there's room.

Instead of a set menu, Delamere has a pick-your-own picnic. You choose from a self-serve spread of seasonal food from Tasmanian dairies, smallgoods makers and farms, then eat in the gardens or take it with you. Everything you need for the picnic is provided.

Bridestowe Estate's lavender fields at Nabowla are about 20 minutes east, so a morning with the lavender and an afternoon picnic and tasting here make an easy day.

  • Taste a flight of four estate wines, including sparkling, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay
