About Frick Winery
Frick Winery is a one-man estate operation on Walling Road in the northern Dry Creek Valley. Bill Frick and his wife, Judith Gannon, started the winery in 1976, funding it with the money from selling their 1957 Chevrolet, and 2026 marks Bill's 50th year making wine. The estate covers 7.77 acres, and everything made here is Rhône-style.
The vineyard grows Carignane, Cinsaut, Counoise, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Viognier, and the wines are made in small batches. The 2026 harvest was the earliest the winery has had, wrapping up in mid-September.
Visiting is simple and personal. The Frick Tasting House is open Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. all year, and tastings of current releases are free. You taste standing at the bar indoors, and a visit takes about half an hour. Walk-ins are welcome, and booking a time on their website is appreciated. Because the room is small and staffed lightly, groups are limited to four people or fewer.
Purple Hills Lavender Farm near Geyserville is about 3 miles away as the crow flies, roughly a 15-minute drive. A weekend plan could start with a stroll and picnic in the lavender rows, followed by a short stop at the Frick bar.
