About Huber's Orchard, Winery & Vineyards

Huber's sits in the hills of Starlight, near Borden in southern Indiana, on land the family has worked since Simon Huber arrived from Baden-Baden, Germany, in 1843 with a background in fruit growing and winemaking. The first 80-acre tract has grown to more than 700 acres, and the seventh generation now runs a farm market and bakery, an ice cream shop, a café, a winery and the Starlight Distillery under the motto Farm First.

U-pick is the heart of a visit, and it runs roughly from May to December. Strawberries come in late May, raspberries and blueberries in mid-June, green beans and peaches in late June, and blackberries, sweet corn, sunflowers and zinnias in early July. Seedless table grapes and apples follow in mid-August, fall vegetables in early September, and pumpkins, gourds and squash from mid-September. After Thanksgiving you can cut your own Christmas tree. A tractor-pulled wagon takes pickers to the fields, and the farm supplies containers.

Families can spend hours in the Family Farm Park, with a grain train tour, two slides, a tile maze plus a corn maze in September and October, pedal karts on a 1,000-foot track, a jump pad, a playground and gem mining. Daily admission is $6 a person, $5 each for groups of six or more, and free under 12 months. The Starlight Café serves lunch and pizza, the ice cream is churned with orchard fruit, and the winery and distillery offer tours and tastings for adults. The farm also hosts a Fall Harvest Festival and Santa weekends in November and December.

The closest lavender listing is Sadona Farms near Scottsburg, about 30 minutes northeast, and Lavender Creek Farm in Corydon, with its farm store, is roughly 35 to 40 minutes southwest.
