About Juno Olives
Juno Olives is a small family grove on State Highway 2 just south of Greytown, on stony, free-draining ground looking toward the Tararua Range. Karen and Ian Juno planted it after finding the land in 2001, choosing Tuscan, Greek, Spanish and French olives; Andy and Helen took over the grove and the name in January 2021. Six varieties grow here and each is picked and pressed on its own, so you can taste the difference between a soft, fruity Koroneiki and a more intense Picholine.
The grove shop opens Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 3pm, with weekday visits by appointment. Alongside the single-variety extra virgin oils are agrumato oils, made by pressing basil or rosemary with the olives, and infused oils such as garlic, chili, lemon, lemongrass and mandarin, plus gift boxes and larger bag-in-box sizes for the kitchen.
Two experiences run by appointment. The grove tour (NZ$25 a person in October 2026, minimum four people or NZ$100 for a smaller group) lasts 60 to 75 minutes: a walk through the trees, a short film on picking and pressing, a tasting of plain and flavored oils and usually a small piece of olive oil cake, with 10 percent off shop purchases that day. The 30-minute tasting (NZ$10) focuses on judging quality and matching oils to food. Send an enquiry through their website with your preferred date and they confirm within a day.
Lavender Abbey near Carterton is about 15 minutes north on the same highway, and its shop also opens on weekends, so the two fit easily into one Wairarapa Saturday with lunch in Greytown between.
