About Molewood Orchard

Molewood Orchard has grown apples on Mole Street, a short walk or bike ride from Greytown's Main Street, for more than 30 years and opens its rows to pickers each autumn. Apple varieties include Galaxy, Sunglow, Pacific Queen, Braeburn, Fuji and Granny Smith, and the pear rows hold Doyenne du Comice, Beurre Bosc, Packham's and Taylor's Gold, so there is fruit for both baking and eating fresh.

Picking is a weekend activity. In 2026 the orchard opened Saturday 28 February and ran every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 4pm until King's Birthday weekend, closing Monday 1 June. Bring your own bucket, basket or bag, plus a hat and sunscreen, since the rows are open to the sun. Parking is in the orchard and along Mole Street.

The Molewood Meadows, made from two old orchard blocks, are open for picnics, and campervans can book a night there (one booking per night) through the season. The orchard's Greytown Apple Harvest Festival on Saturday 4 April 2026 had free entry from 10am to 3pm, with stalls, food trucks, games, carriage rides, puppy cuddles, a kids' coloring competition and pick-your-own at $3 a kilo. On Easter Sunday, 5 April 2026, hot-air balloons inflated in the orchard from 7am, and visitors could stay on to pick.

Lavender Abbey near Carterton is about 10 minutes north. Its shop opens on weekends and its pick-your-own days fall at the height of the lavender season in summer, so plan a summer trip for lavender and come back in March or April for fruit.
