About Ranui Essentials Lavender Farm
Ranui Essentials is a lavender farm and essential oil distillery in the hills above Martinborough, on Dry River Road. Owners Tracy and Eric Voice spent more than ten years turning a sloping clay block into the farm, which now grows more than 30 lavender varieties among about 4,500 plants.
Tracy guides farm tours that walk through the rows and explain the different varieties. The lavender blooms in summer, and around mid-January, at harvest, visitors may see the distillery at work. Picnic tables and umbrellas are set out among the plants for a rest or a photo. The farm is open daily 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in January and on weekends the rest of the year, with closures on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Anzac Day and Christmas Day. Hours are updated on the farm's social pages.
The boutique shop carries more than 50 lavender products made on site, from essential oils and home fragrance to beauty products. The farm serves its signature lavender ice cream, lavender lattes and coffee, and offers tastings of its award-winning lavender gin, vodka, rum and liqueur.
Martinborough's wineries are a few minutes down the road, so the farm fits easily into a Wairarapa day out.
