About Krinklewood Estate

Krinklewood is a 150-acre estate in Broke, in the Hunter Valley, set under the Brokenback mountain range. The vineyard has been certified organic and biodynamic for more than 17 years: no synthetic chemicals, compost-fed soils and a farming calendar that follows the lunar cycle. Wine is made in the on-site winery, and the grounds are laid out as Provence-style gardens with hedged paths and peacocks wandering about.

The cellar door opens Friday through Sunday. You can choose a 45-minute guided pour of five wines, a self-pour wine card that covers up to eight wines, or a flight of three half glasses. The range runs from the low-intervention 'Wild' Semillon, Shiraz and rosé to estate Verdelho, Chardonnay and a traditional sparkling called 'The Gypsy'. It also opens on most long-weekend Mondays (Easter, June and October) and adds a few extra days around Christmas and New Year.

Cézan Trattoria & Bar serves seasonal shared plates from estate-grown produce in the courtyard, from brunch to late lunch on tasting days, and groups of 8 to 20 can book a set menu. Krinklewood also has a farmstay for overnight guests and hosts weddings and events. Dogs on a leash are welcome; the resident Maremma, Polare, is on a diet, so please don't share your cheese.

Hunter Lavender Farm is also in Broke, about 10 minutes away by road, and opens for about four weeks each December. A summer visit can pair a morning in the lavender with a long lunch in the Krinklewood courtyard.
