About Whispering Brook
Whispering Brook is a small, single-vineyard winery in Broke run by winemakers Susan and Adam. It is best known for Portuguese grape varieties such as Arinto and Touriga Nacional, alongside an aged tawny. Olive groves grow beside the vines, and the estate presses its own olive oil on site.
Tastings are seated, on a covered verandah looking over the olive trees or inside the tasting room, Thursday to Saturday. The short Discovery tasting pours four current releases; the Signature Estate tasting runs six or seven wines over about an hour; and a Portuguese varieties tasting pairs each wine with artisan chocolate. In winter (June to August in Australia), small fireside tastings for up to eight guests match each Portuguese wine with a local cheese. Private tours of the vineyard and olive grove can also be arranged.
A grazing platter of local cheese, charcuterie, warm bread and estate olive oil serves two or three people. There's a cubby house just outside the cellar door for children, and dogs are welcome. The guesthouse among the vines and olive trees sleeps up to 18, and the team hosts small weddings, milestone birthdays and anniversary lunches. The tasting area, amenities and parking are wheelchair accessible.
Hunter Lavender Farm is also in Broke, about 10 minutes away, and opens daily for about four weeks each December. On a Thursday to Saturday in that window, you can easily visit both.
