About Lyman Orchards

Lyman Orchards in Middlefield has been farmed by the same family since 1741, and the tenth generation now runs it. The property spreads across several stops: the Apple Barrel farm market on Reeds Gap Road, pick-your-own fields on South Street, 45 holes of golf and the 1741 Pub & Grill.

Picking runs through the warm months, with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches and pears on the crop list. In mid-October 2026 the orchard reported excellent apple supplies, with Macoun, Empire, Cortland, Fuji, Jonagold, Crispin, Cameo and more, plus carving and sugar pumpkins in orange and white. Picking hours were daily 9 to 4:30, and containers are provided; you cannot bring your own.

The Apple Barrel is open all year from 9 to 6, with a deli, a bakery counter and a creamery serving soft serve. Buying pick-your-own fruit earns a same-day half-off coupon for a small soft serve. The 2026 corn maze, themed for 250 years of the USA, runs through November 1, and fall brings extras such as a haunted house and a Halloween event at the maze.

Lavender Pond Farm in Killingworth is about 25 minutes south. Visit the lavender fields in summer and come back to Lyman for berries or peaches, or pair a fall apple-picking trip with a stop at the Killingworth farm store.
