About Cohen's Bagel Company

Cohen's Bagel Company is a bagel bakery and café on Boston Post Road in Madison. Rob and Christine Cohen, who grew up in the Bronx and Westchester, moved to the shoreline in 2001, could not find a bagel they liked and opened their own shop in June 2003. The bagels are hand-rolled and baked on site every day, along with breads and pastries.

Breakfast is the main event. Order a plain or everything bagel with a tub of chive or lox cream cheese, a breakfast sandwich such as the Sunrise or the Westerner, an avocado smash or a bagel melt. At lunch the menu moves to sandwiches like roast beef and cheddar or the Lox & Co, plus soups, salads, smoothies and coffee. A dozen to take home is an easy way to bring the shore back with you.

The Madison shop opens at 6 am Monday through Friday and closes at 3 pm, and on weekends runs 7 am to 2 pm. You can eat in, take out or order ahead online for pickup, and the shop handles casual catering and office breakfasts. A second location is in Middletown.

Lavender Pond Farm in Killingworth is about 15 minutes north. Pick up bagels and coffee here, then drive up for a morning walk around the pond and the lavender fields.
