About NB Distillery

NB Distillery makes gin, rum and vodka at Halflandbarns, on a small industrial estate near Whitekirk between North Berwick and Dunbar off the A198. Its original NB Gin was voted World's Best London Dry Gin in 2015, and the range now runs from London Dry, Navy Strength and Samphire gins to a citrus vodka and spiced and barrel-aged rums. Owner Jamie MacDonald is also the distiller.

The main visit is the Ginspiration Experience, a 1.5-hour evening session from 5pm to about 6:30pm. You start with a gin and tonic, hear how the distillery began and how distillation works, then move to the tasting lounge for a flight of three NB gins and a final drink of your choice, which can be one of the rums. It runs Wednesday to Saturday in January and February and Tuesday to Saturday from March to December, at £28.50 a head plus a booking fee (as listed October 2026). Non-drinkers get premium soft drinks and a sample bottle of gin to take home.

Two-hour cocktail evenings pair drinks with local produce for £40 a head. The cellar door shop opens Wednesday to Friday, 11am to 4pm, and will refill empty NB gin, rum or vodka bottles at a discount. The building is fully wheelchair accessible, with a ramp, a lift to the upstairs lounge and an accessible toilet. Everything here is strictly over-18.

Lothian Lavender near Gifford is about 25 minutes south through East Lothian farmland, so a summer afternoon there can lead into an early-evening tasting, with a taxi back.
