About The Bus Stop at Bankrugg Farm
The Bus Stop is a family-run glamping site on Bankrugg Farm, a working arable farm outside Gifford that has moved to regenerative methods. Instead of cabins or tents, guests sleep in old buses that have been rebuilt by hand with recycled materials, from a luxury double-decker to simpler eco buses. The farm looks toward the Lammermuir Hills, about 40 minutes from Edinburgh, with open green space and walking routes straight from the door.
The luxury buses are open all year and come with central heating, a wood-burning stove, a private kitchen and an en-suite bathroom. The eco buses run from April to October on an off-grid patch of the farm away from roads and houses, and the hosts suggest them for families with young children. Every bus has its own wood-fired hot tub, heated before you arrive with logs sourced locally and dried on the farm, and treated with a natural disinfectant rather than chemicals.
Stays are a two-night minimum, with check-in from 3pm and check-out by 10am. Extras can be booked on top: a one-hour working farm tour to meet the alpacas, goats, sheep, pigs and chickens (2026: £25 per adult, £15 per child), a goat tea with the pygmy goats, and a private outdoor sauna with a cold plunge. Dogs are welcome, up to two per bus at £10 each, and the site asks for quiet after 9pm.
Lothian Lavender is also based in Gifford, only a few minutes away, so a summer stay here puts you right beside the lavender and the village's cafés and walks.
