About New Union Brewery

New Union Brewery is a small neighborhood brewery on West Main Street in Lowell, the river town east of Grand Rapids. It describes itself as Lowell's first microbrewery and aims to be a friendly gathering spot for the community, the kind of place where locals meet after work and visitors can sit down for a pint while exploring downtown.

All of the beer is brewed on site and the taps rotate. Expect lagers, blondes, ales, IPAs and hazy IPAs, plus seasonal specials that change through the year. Several locally made ciders and a few non-alcoholic choices are also on the menu, so not everyone in the group has to drink beer. The taproom is open six days a week, starting mid-afternoon on weekdays and at noon on weekends, and it's closed on Mondays.

The brewery posts events and day-to-day updates on its social pages rather than its website, so look there for what's happening the week you visit. Lowell has more to round out the trip: Painted Turtle Hard Cider pours its orchard ciders at the Orchards at Red Barn just north of town.

Great Lakes Lavender Farm near Rockford is about 35 minutes northwest. The farm isn't open for visits, but online orders can be picked up there on Wednesdays and Fridays, and New Union opens at 3 PM on those days for a stop on the way home.

  • Order a pint from the rotating taps brewed on site
