About Riverwood Pottery
Riverwood Pottery is a small studio and shop on Morton Street in downtown Shipshewana, where potter Jesse Woodworth makes functional stoneware inspired by nature. Jesse is a Hoosier who spent ten years in Colorado's Rocky Mountains before coming home; his family is the sixth generation to farm Riverdale Farm, about five miles southwest of town. That mix of mountains and farm shows up in the work, from the Aspen Tree mug and tumbler to a cow hoof mug.
The shelves hold mugs, cups, dinnerware, home decor and gifts, all made for everyday use. The best part of a visit is that Jesse is often at the wheel during store hours, so you can watch pieces being thrown and trimmed while you shop. If you find a favorite design after you get home, the shop also ships orders from its online store.
Posted hours have varied, with Tuesday through Saturday the usual pattern, so call before making a special trip. Since it sits in the walkable center of town, it is easy to fit between lunch, the flea market and other downtown shops.
Bloomfield Schoolhouse Lavender Farm & Apothecary's shop in downtown LaGrange is about 15 minutes east, and its lavender goods pair well with a handmade mug as a gift.
