About Dutch Creek Farm Animal Park
Dutch Creek Farm Animal Park is an Amish-owned animal park about 10 minutes outside downtown Shipshewana. Its draw is the safari-style wagon tour, where you ride out among the animals and feed them up close, and the park mixes familiar farm animals with exotic ones; the monkeys are a favorite on the feeding stops. A petting zoo rounds out the visit.
The park is open from May 1 to mid-October, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:30 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm, closed on Sundays. It also opens on Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day, and closes on Ascension Day. There are three ways to see it: the wagon tour, a drive-through in your own car at 5 mph with windows up and no feeding, or a walk-through.
It is a classic school field trip stop, and groups of all sizes are welcome; buses are asked to give two hours' notice. Families with small children tend to get the most from the wagon tour, since feeding is part of it. Photos are encouraged, and the park takes cash and major credit cards.
Bloomfield Schoolhouse Lavender Farm & Apothecary's shop in downtown LaGrange is about 25 minutes east, so you can pair the animals with a lavender stop.
