About Doc Pierce's Restaurant
Doc Pierce's has served downtown Mishawaka from 120 North Main Street since 1976. Bruce and Pat Tassell bought the empty building that July. When a fire took down the building next door, it exposed an old painted advertisement for Doctor Pierce's on their wall, and a friend suggested borrowing the name. The early menu even leaned on doctor jokes. The Tassells ran the restaurant for 47 years before selling it to Kurt Janowsky of Navarre Hospitality Group, who also runs The Emporium in South Bend and the Matterhorn in Elkhart.
The menu has stayed close to what regulars came for: hand-cut steaks, seafood, salmon, a grilled Reuben, prime rib burgers, chicken, salads and onion rings. Recent menu prices include a 12-ounce ribeye at $29.99 and a 6-ounce filet at $39.99, with lighter plates such as a French dip and pasta Alfredo. For something different, the Ambrosia is a Polynesian-marinated chicken breast served with wild rice.
Inside there is a full bar for cocktails and craft beer, and in warm weather an outdoor patio. Pickup orders can be placed ahead from the restaurant's ordering page.
Lavender Hill Farm of Niles, Michigan, is about 25 minutes north, so a downtown Mishawaka steak dinner can follow an afternoon at the lavender farm; check the farm's open days first.
