About Timberline Inn

Timberline Inn is a dinner restaurant on School Street in Dowagiac, set among trees and serving guests since 1939. Despite the name it is a place to eat, not to stay overnight. The menu is classic American supper club fare: hand-cut ribeye and filet, center-cut pork chops, barbecue ribs, fried chicken, and a seafood list that includes Canadian lake perch, walleye and salmon.

The kitchen makes its soups, bread, dressings, sauces and desserts in-house each day, and the restaurant says it buys from farmers and producers around southwest Michigan. Many of the servers have been on staff for years. You can settle in for a full dinner or eat more casually at the bar.

The Timberline opens at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and is closed Monday and Tuesday. It takes reservations by phone and books private parties such as birthdays, rehearsal dinners and work gatherings, which makes it a good choice for a group finishing a farm day together. Specials such as prime rib nights are announced on their website.

Lavender Hill Farm of Niles is about 12 miles south. Spend a summer afternoon picking lavender there, then drive north for an early dinner here when the doors open.
