About Piggott's Farm Market & Bakery

Piggott's Farm Market & Bakery stands on East Napier Avenue on the Benton Harbor side of Berrien County's fruit belt. Laurel "Bud" Piggott and his wife Francis started farming here in 1949 and first named the business for their six daughters, who helped run it. Today their daughter Laurie and her husband George manage the market, and a grandson, also named George, is the third generation working the land.

This is a place to buy what the family has already picked rather than a U-pick farm. The farm's own produce chart points to sweet cherries, blueberries and peaches in summer, along with sweet corn, beans, onions and peppers, and then a turn to fall fruit and vegetables as the weather cools. Harvest timing moves around from year to year, so the family suggests calling to find out what is on the tables that week.

The bakery side keeps donuts, pies and other fresh baked goods on hand all season, and the shelves fill out with locally made jams, jellies, preserves, pickled vegetables, cheese, honey and maple syrup. It is an easy stop to gather picnic food or a pie for the drive home, and the market is open every day during the season.

For a lavender pairing, Hickory Creek Lavender Farm near Stevensville is about 9 miles southwest, most of it on I-94. Shop Piggott's for fruit and a pie, then spend the afternoon among the lavender rows during Hickory Creek's summer you-pick.
