About Mackenzies Bakery
Mackenzies Bakery was a family-owned Kalamazoo bakery for some 40 years before it closed in 2020. Vicksburg native Chris Moore brought the name back in a historic building on East Prairie Street in downtown Vicksburg, south of Kalamazoo, that had sat empty for 22 years and once housed local sweet shops. The new bakery keeps the scratch-made approach with a more modern take on artisan breads and sweets.
Breads, cookies and muffins are baked fresh every day, and the counter pours coffee and tea. Shelves hold jams, honey and granola, along with bakery merchandise. You can eat inside or at outdoor tables, or take a loaf to go. Same-day orders can be called in for pickup if paid ahead, and the online shop takes orders for pickup or delivery.
The bakery opens Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is closed Sunday and Monday. That makes it a good early stop on a Saturday drive through the farm country south and west of Kalamazoo.
Shades of Lavender Farm near Mattawan is about 16 miles northwest. Pick up bread and cookies here, then head over for an afternoon among the lavender in summer.
