About Lawton Ridge Winery

Lawton Ridge Winery is a family-owned estate winery whose tasting room stands on Stadium Drive in Oshtemo Township, just west of Kalamazoo. The family started farming three generations ago on the edge of Southwest Michigan's fruit belt, and the winery's grapes and apples come from its own plantings; the estate vineyard is in Lawton, while production and the historic tasting room are here. Wine and cider are made in small batches, and the lineup includes a red blend named for the P-51 Mustang.

The tasting room is easy to reach, about 3 miles west of US-131 exit 36 and 3 miles north of I-94 exit 72. A tasting is five wines for $12, and wine and cider are also poured by the glass and sold by the bottle. It is open Wednesday through Sunday all year, with a late evening on Wednesdays when food trucks park outside from 5 to 7:30 PM.

Food inside is kept simple: small bites meant for wine, such as pre-packaged charcuterie, pretzels and chocolates, plus a few seasonal items. The events page posts food trucks, special wine releases and other happenings. Parties of eight or more should call ahead to hold space. For a full meal, the same family runs Texas Corners Brewing Company a few miles south, a brewpub that pours their wine alongside house beer and cider.

Shades of Lavender Farm in Mattawan is about 20 minutes west by I-94. It is open year-round with free entry, so you can walk the lavender rows and then come back for a late-afternoon tasting.
