About Summerhouse Lavender Farm
Summerhouse Lavender Farm is on 65th Street outside Fennville, about 10 minutes from downtown Saugatuck. It opened to the public in 2021 with about 1,200 lavender plants set among gardens built for slowing down: grass paths that are easy on the feet, shady rest stops, fountains, perennials, a birch grove, a stone fire pit and a Japanese zen garden.
The lavender usually reaches full bloom in late June or early July, and the farm's festival weekends are typically the first two weekends of July. In past festivals visitors could pick lavender and watch West Michigan painters, glass blowers and wood turners at work, with live music and food. Free guided tours leave every half hour and cover choosing, planting, growing and pruning lavender, with demonstrations of harvesting and distilling it into essential oil.
On the first and third weekends the farm usually holds mind and body sessions beside the lavender, including meditation, qigong and tai chi, and yoga. The farm store sells handmade organic lavender oils, soaps and candles, usually made with lavender distilled on the farm, and is open whenever the farm is; the online store runs year-round. The property also offers event space and a modern vacation rental.
Crane's Pie Pantry, a restaurant and bakery on a century-old fruit farm in Fennville, is about 10 minutes away for fruit pie and lunch.
