About Bella Vista Farm
Bella Vista Farm is a small, family-run U-pick farm owned by Mary and John Renaldi, with 105 acres of orchards, fields and flowers along M-89 near Fennville, a few miles from Lake Michigan. The fruit trees are dwarf varieties, so nearly everything is within reach from the ground and no ladders are needed. The range is unusually wide: berries, more than a dozen peach varieties, nectarines, plums, 22 apple varieties, squash, pumpkins and even Chinese chestnuts.
Picking opens around the first week of July with Duke blueberries, which last about three weeks. Encore raspberries follow in mid-July, and everbearing Polana raspberries run from early August into early October. Peaches such as Redhaven, Coralstar and Allstar, along with nectarines, ripen from early August to mid-September, with Shiro and Black Amber plums in mid-August. Apples start in early September, from Honeycrisp and Gala to Evercrisp, Mutsu and Pink Lady, and the season winds down in mid to late October with pumpkins, squash and gourds.
Crops depend on the weather, so the farm keeps a daily picking update on its phone line. Flowers come from the affiliated White Barn Flower, and the family also sells at the Holland Farmers Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, May through October. Well-behaved, leashed pets are welcome, though not in the berry patches. Portable toilets are spread around the farm.
Summerhouse Lavender Farm is about 15 minutes west toward Saugatuck. A July morning can start with blueberries here and end among the lavender while it blooms.
