About Butch's Dry Dock

Butch's Dry Dock is a dinner restaurant on 8th Street in downtown Holland, led for more than 25 years by Butch TerHaar. Wine is the focus. The list has earned Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence, which the restaurant says puts it among fewer than 800 restaurants worldwide and about ten in Michigan, and the kitchen writes a suggested drink pairing for each dish on its seasonal menu.

Dinner is served Monday through Saturday until 9, with happy hour from 4 to 6, and the restaurant is closed Sundays. Reservations are strongly recommended, and gift cards are sold through its website. The dining room is large enough for private parties, and the restaurant takes event bookings through its website.

Part of the space is a beer and wine shop with more than 500 different wines on the shelves. Beer is sold by the single bottle, so you can build a mixed six-pack, and wine buyers get 10 percent off six bottles or 15 percent off twelve. It is a handy place to pick up a bottle for a rental cottage or a gift. The owners also run culinary wine tours abroad.

Lake Michigan Lavender is about 15 minutes north of downtown, and Summerhouse Lavender Farm near Saugatuck is roughly 20 minutes south, so dinner here can close out a summer day at the lavender fields.
