About Harbor House Inn

Harbor House Inn sits on Harbor Drive in downtown Grand Haven, directly across from the boardwalk that follows the Grand River toward Lake Michigan. The building went up in 1987 in a Michigan Victorian style, and its 19 guest rooms all have private baths. Fourteen of them add a whirlpool tub and a fireplace, and seven have a sofa sleeper for families or friends sharing a room.

The big draw is the location. From the large screened porch you can watch boats move through the Grand Haven channel and see the musical fountain across the river, and the shops, restaurants and beach are all close enough to reach on foot. Room types run from Deluxe to Premium rooms with balconies, plus cottage rooms.

Mornings start with a buffet from 8 to 10 a.m., with homemade bread, seasonal fruit, the inn's own cereal blend, yogurt, cheeses, bagels and hard-boiled eggs, served on the porch or by the fireplace. In the evening, coffee, tea and fresh cookies are set out in the living room from 5 to 9 p.m., and a caramel made at the inn is left by each bed at night. The innkeepers also take small groups such as family reunions, church retreats and work seminars.

For lavender, Summerhouse Lavender Farm near Fennville is about 30 miles south, roughly 45 minutes on US-31 and I-196. It opens Thursday through Sunday in season with free guided tours, so it makes an easy day trip from a Grand Haven stay in late June or July.
