About Fruit Ridge Hayrides
Fruit Ridge Hayrides operates on a fruit farm about 130 years old on Fruit Ridge Avenue in Kent City, in the apple country locals call the Ridge, roughly five minutes from Sparta and 20 from Grand Rapids. Its signature is horse-drawn rides through the farm's woods and orchard over rolling clay hills, offered in some form in every season.
Fall is the busy time. From mid-September through October you can pick apples and pumpkins, ride the hayrides and work through a 10-acre corn maze that the farm calls the most challenging in West Michigan. Fall hours are Saturday 10 to 9 and Sunday 10 to 5, plus Friday evenings from 5 to 9 in October. Spring and summer bring Plow Days, campfires and group hayrides, and winter brings sleigh rides for groups.
Prices posted this fall: hayrides $10, the corn maze $8, or $17 for both; pony rides for children are $6, the petting zoo is free, and there is no general admission charge. The farm is known for its apple cider and homemade donuts, and kids can also ride a pig train and a fire engine. Groups of 20 or more, school field trips, scout troops and birthday parties should reserve ahead.
