About River Stop Cafe
River Stop Cafe has been a gathering place on State Road in downtown Newaygo since 1990. It began as a 15-seat coffee house and is still independently owned, now with a full kitchen, an in-house bakery and a bar.
Days are built around coffee, espresso drinks and teas, with soups, sandwiches, and baked goods and deli items made on site for breakfast and lunch. From 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday the room turns into the Social House, serving homemade empanadas, nachos and other plates to share, with Michigan craft beer, wine and cocktails. Take-out is available.
The café hosts music and game nights and wine tastings, rents out its basement space for private events, and caters. Its hours as posted are Monday through Wednesday 7 to 4, Thursday and Friday 7 to 9, Saturday 8 to 9 and Sunday 9 to 3, which makes it the one place on the block that serves both an early breakfast and a late supper. North Woods General Store and Heavenflow Coffee Co. are a few doors away, and the Muskegon River is a short walk.
Sleepy Creek Lavender Co.'s farm near White Cloud is not open to visitors, but its boutique sits inside Market 41 on this same block of State Road, so lunch here and a stop for lavender goods fit easily together.
