About Happy Campers Campground
Happy Campers is a small, rustic campground on Croton Drive outside Newaygo, a short walk from Croton Dam and close to Croton Pond. The sites are tucked into the trees, and the owners pitch it as a quiet, low-key place with fewer rules than a resort-style park. Hundreds of acres of state land surround it.
Trails run from the campsites down to the Muskegon River and link up with the North Country Trail, so you can fish, hike or bike straight from camp. Tubing and boating are close by, and the campground has put together its own pages on local fishing and area attractions. Campers have watched the Croton Township fireworks from the grounds.
Sites have 20-, 30- or 50-amp electric service, and there is running water, a fresh-water fill and a dump station. There are pit toilets but no showers or bathhouse, so come self-contained. Under the posted rules, check-in is at 3 p.m. and check-out at noon, quiet hours run 11 p.m. to 8 a.m., fires stay in the fire rings, and fireworks are banned. Dogs are welcome on a leash of 6 feet or less, up to two per RV site and one per tent site. Seasonal sites are offered by application and fill quickly.
Sleepy Creek Lavender Co. does not open its White Cloud farm to visitors, but its boutique is inside Market 41 on State Road in downtown Newaygo, about 15 minutes away, which makes an easy errand on a rainy camp day.
