About Muskegon River Inn
The Muskegon River Inn fills the second floor of a restored 1860s brick building on State Road in downtown Newaygo. The first inn here housed the loggers and rivermen who floated white pine down the Muskegon River. Today there are seven guest rooms upstairs and a coffee shop, an antique and gift market and a clothing boutique at street level.
Rooms have a king bed or two queens, private baths with tiled showers and in-floor heat, and the suites add seating areas and antique crystal chandeliers. Two suites connect through a reading nook to sleep six. Posted rates run from $139 to $229 a night for single rooms and $289 to $419 for the combined suites (rates page updated 2025).
Fishing is the inn's other business. Guide Jay Allen runs full-day trips ($500 for one or two people, lunch included) and half-day trips ($300, snacks included). The inn's fishing pages lay out the river by season: steelhead in spring and again from late September, smallmouth bass from late June, Chinook salmon in September and October, and resident brown and rainbow trout below Croton Dam all year.
The river, restaurants and a craft brewery are a short walk away, and Heavenflow Coffee Co. is downstairs for the morning. Sleepy Creek Lavender Co. does not open its farm near White Cloud to visitors, but its boutique is inside Market 41 in this same row of storefronts.
