About Crane's Pie Pantry, Restaurant & Winery
Crane's Pie Pantry opened in 1972 in a 150-year-old barn on the Crane family's fruit farm east of Fennville; the barn once held cows and later tractors. Bob and Lue Crane built the business after Lue began selling custom fruit baskets in 1967, and their daughters Becky and Laura now run the restaurant and winery. The dining room seats about 80 and is lined with World War II and other historic memorabilia.
The pies are the reason to come: fruit pies from family recipes, made with fruit from the farm, plus crisps and strudels sold whole to take home. The kitchen bakes its own bread and buns for sandwiches, and serves soups and salads at breakfast and lunch. Since 2014 the farm has made small-batch hard cider and fruit wine, and sweet cider, which is not pasteurized, is sold by the glass, half gallon or gallon.
Fall is the busiest stretch. Groups of eight or more can reserve on weekdays, and on weekends from November through July, but from August through October weekend seating is first come, first served. Regulars can collect stamps toward a free dessert, and holiday pies have order deadlines in mid-November and early December. A second location, Crane's in the City, is on 8th Street in downtown Holland.
Crane Orchards is next door for picking, and Summerhouse Lavender Farm is about 15 minutes west, so lavender, fruit and a slice of pie fit easily into one summer day.
