About Pleasant Hill Farm

Pleasant Hill Farm grows blueberries on M-89 east of Fennville and has been certified organic since 1977, making it one of the first certified organic blueberry farms in Michigan. John's grandfather bought the land in 1937 and planted bushes that still bear fruit, and John converted the 40 acres to organic growing in the mid-1970s. The family has since planted miles of hedgerows and acres of wildflowers around the fields.

U-pick season is short, running from about July 17 to the first weekend in August depending on the weather. Picking hours are posted on the farm's social pages and phone message during harvest. Outside that window the farm sells only frozen berries, which you can pick up by appointment in any month, or have shipped starting in early September.

The farm also taps its maple trees each March and boils the sap over a wood fire, and the syrup is sold on the farm. In early summer a four-acre field of poppies and wildflowers blooms; it is there for looking, not picking. To find the farm, watch for the yellow sign on the north side of M-89, about five miles east of I-196, and follow the half-mile drive to the big barn.

Summerhouse Lavender Farm is about 15 minutes west, and its July lavender bloom overlaps the blueberry harvest here.
