About Stutzman Dairy Farm
Stutzman Dairy Farm is a sixth-generation, Amish-owned working dairy less than a mile from downtown Shipshewana. Tours show how a modern dairy runs: you watch the cows being milked from an upstairs viewing room, then learn what can be made from milk and how dairy cows are cared for today. Tours are booked through Amish Country Dairy, a company started by local farmers in 2020 that bottles cream-top, non-homogenized milk in flavors such as strawberry, blueberry, coffee, cocoa and maple.
Tours run Monday through Saturday by appointment only, at 11 am and 7 pm, and the visitor bureau lists a season from May 1 to mid-December, with fewer tour times after mid-October. Call to book and to confirm the time, since posted schedules vary.
Families get the most from the Little Ole Barnyard, where kids can hand-feed and bottle-feed animals, visit calves in their playpen and pet the pigs. The tour ends with a walk through the farm garden. It is a good pick for children who have never seen where milk comes from, and an evening tour fits after a day in town.
Bloomfield Schoolhouse Lavender Farm & Apothecary's shop in downtown LaGrange is about 15 minutes east, so a morning tour here and a lavender stop pair easily.
