About Eby's Evergreen Plantation
Eby's Evergreen Plantation is a Christmas tree farm on State Road 120 in Bristol, in northern Elkhart County close to the Michigan line. Families walk the rows, choose a tree, cut it themselves and load it up to take home, and many come back to the same field year after year.
Three kinds of trees grow here. Fraser fir is the one people choose for its dark blue-green color, scent and the way it holds its needles indoors. Scotch pine is another strong keeper with excellent needle retention. White pine has soft, long needles; the farm notes that sheared white pines are the usual Christmas shape, though the dense branches can make it harder to hang large ornaments.
The farm posts its opening day on its website, and in recent seasons it has opened on November 24, with hours from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. That closing time comes before dark in late November and December, so plan to arrive with enough daylight to walk the field and cut. The website keeps a printable $2-off coupon to bring along, and it posts a cut-your-own price list there as well.
