About Ryedale Vineyards
Ryedale Vineyards is a small family business on Farfield Farm at Westow, between Malton and York, and was once the most northerly commercial vineyard in the UK. It farms 13 acres of vines and more than 100 rare apple tree varieties, and makes both wine and cider entirely by hand in a converted cow byre.
Tours and tastings run from spring to the end of October, mostly on Fridays and Saturdays, and include behind-the-scenes demonstrations before the tasting; the 2027 tour season opens in April. From October to Christmas the farm runs festive tours with mulled wine, spiced cider and mince pies. The cellar door sells wine and cider Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, but staff may be out in the fields, so phone ahead.
On selected Friday and Saturday dates in summer the farm opens as a bed and breakfast, and guests can add a 3pm tour and tasting on arrival. Tours aren't suitable for children because it's a working farm, though children are welcome at public events. Dogs aren't allowed during tours, but leashed dogs are welcome on event days. The walking on tours is short, and a seat can be provided; the winery has a rough cobbled floor and a stone step.
Yorkshire Lavender at Terrington is about 20 minutes northwest through the Howardian Hills, and Woldies at Wintringham a similar distance east, so a summer tasting combines easily with either.
