About Thomas Shepherd Inn
Thomas Shepherd Inn occupies an 1868 house at 300 West German Street in the center of historic Shepherdstown. Ed and Carol Ringoot opened it as an inn in 1984, and it has been under new owners since August 2021. It has five guest rooms, each with a private bath, renovated while keeping their historic details.
Room One was the house's original main bedroom and has a king four-poster canopy bed, an electric insert in the old brick fireplace and windows looking down German Street to the steeple of Trinity Episcopal Church. The Rose Suite has vintage wallpaper and an original brick wall in the bath, Room Three suits two friends with a queen and a twin XL bed, the Aviary Suite has two double beds, and Room Five has a queen bed made in West Virginia and a walk-in shower redone in 2023.
A continental breakfast buffet is set out in the parlor each morning from 8 to 10:30, light refreshments come out in the afternoon, and coffee, tea and snacks are available around the clock in the salon and upstairs library. Shops and restaurants are a few blocks' walk, and cyclists can ride the C&O Canal towpath just across the Potomac. The inn is for adults 18 and over, and pets are not allowed.
Treasured Roots Farm, an organic lavender farm in Myersville, Maryland, is about 30 minutes east; check their website for visit days before planning a combined trip.
