About Denbies Wine Estate
Denbies has been family-owned since it was established in 1986 and describes itself as England's largest single-estate vineyard, spread across the slopes outside Dorking in the Surrey Hills. Its range covers sparkling wines such as Whitedowns, still wines from grapes including Bacchus and Ortega, a late-harvest Noble Harvest and an orange vermouth.
The estate is open every day from 9am to 5:30pm, closing at 5pm on weekdays from January to March. The best-known tour is the 50-minute outdoor vineyard train ride through the vines (£13, or £18 with sparkling wine). Other options include an indoor wine tasting (£16.95), a two-hour guided Secret Vineyard Tour (£35), a cellar tasting with lunch in the Gallery Restaurant (£45) and a hotel sparkling afternoon tea with a vineyard tour (£47), all as listed October 2026. Seven miles of public footpaths cross the vineyard, so you can also walk it on your own.
Food comes from the Conservatory Restaurant, the Wine Library brasserie and bar, the Gallery Restaurant (Wednesday to Sunday) and a takeaway hatch on the lawn. There's a wine and gift shop and an art gallery, the Vineyard Hotel for overnight stays, and Music on the Lawn events in summer. Dogs are welcome in the grounds but not the main building, and guide dogs can go everywhere.
Mayfield Lavender at Banstead is about 20 to 25 minutes northeast, so a summer morning in the lavender pairs well with lunch and a train tour here.
