About Ed Dunneback & Girls Farm
Edwin Dunneback bought this farm in Alpine Township, northwest of Grand Rapids, in 1925, raising apples, peaches, corn, hay and dairy cows on 170 acres. The name has a story: after Michael Dunneback was killed in Vietnam in 1969, his sister Pamela repainted the barn sign from "& Sons" to "& Girls." Suanne Dunneback has run the farm for about 40 years, now with her daughters Stephanie and Sarah.
U-pick runs from spring into fall: asparagus, strawberries, sweet and tart cherries, then apples such as Honeycrisp, Gala, Empire, Fuji and Jonagold, and finally pumpkins. Availability changes daily and prices change with each season, so call or check the farm's social pages before you go. On fall Fridays through Sundays an entry fee covers the farm, live music, playground, animals, the Dunneback Forty, U-pick access, the corn maze and special events.
The white barn holds a produce market, gift shop, bakery, kitchen and tap room, open Tuesday through Sunday, with happy hours, Wednesday trivia and live music Friday through Sunday. Fall brings a craft show, Oktoberfest, a Dogs & Donuts day and pumpkin events; spring has an Easter brunch and egg hunts, and summer has a concert series. Dogs are allowed only in the beer garden in front of the barn, except at dog-focused events.
