About Krupp Farms

Krupp Farms has grown strawberries on Krupp Avenue since 1916, when Charles Krupp bought 80 acres and planted a single acre of berries. The farm is now in its fourth generation, run by Nancy Krupp and her nephew Derek Huffman, and it still quotes the founder's rule about taking care of the land so the land takes care of you.

Early summer is the season. Strawberries come first, followed by raspberries, and both are offered as U-pick in the field or pre-picked at the Berry Barn. Peaches and sweet corn are sold pre-picked only, by calling ahead; in 2026 a cold winter and spring meant no peaches at all. At the U-pick field a staff member hands you a container and assigns a row, you pay right there, and no reservation is needed. The 2026 berry season has ended and the farm plans to reopen in 2027.

Families tend to make a morning of it. The petting zoo is free, there is a playground for young children, and the Milk House scoops Cedar Crest ice cream and serves strawberry shortcake and hot dogs. Daycares, schools and groups of 20 or more can book weekday field trips during strawberry season.

Great Lakes Lavender Farm, about 30 minutes east near Rockford, grows lavender year-round in greenhouses but is not open for farm visits; its lavender goods are sold through its website.
