About Ganaraska Brewing Company
Ganaraska Brewing Company has been brewing in Port Hope since 2021, in a building on Mill Street South beside the Ganaraska River, a short distance from Lake Ontario. Local architect Reno Piccini designed it to match the heritage look of the town's historic downtown, and the rooftop looks out over the town, the river and the lake.
The tap list rotates among IPAs, pilsners, sours and other styles so most visitors find something they like. Regulars include the light Easy Times (4.0%), Pretty Bad Sunburn (4.7%), Marquee (5.0%), Hazy Rapids (5.6%) and the stronger Raging Rapids (7.4%). Beer to go is sold at the retail counter during taproom hours.
The brewery kitchen cooks with locally sourced ingredients and builds its menu for sharing, which suits a group lunch or an early dinner after a day in the countryside. The taproom is open Tuesday through Sunday, and from May through September the rooftop patio opens at noon, Thursday to Sunday in May and Tuesday to Sunday from June. Events are posted on their website.
Laveanne in Campbellcroft is about 20 minutes north on country roads, so a lavender visit in the Northumberland hills and a late lunch on the Port Hope rooftop pair well on a summer day.
