About Old Flame Brewing Co.
Old Flame Brewing Co. brews German-style lagers in downtown Port Perry, at the corner of Perry and Mary streets. The building went up in 1874 as the Ontario Carriage Works, and the restored taproom draws much of its décor from that past. The brewery opened in 2014 and has since added taprooms in Newmarket and Toronto's Distillery District, but Port Perry is the flagship, and all of its beer is brewed on site.
The lagers are given extra time to mature, following classic German lagering methods. In the tasting room you can order a flight, fill a growler or pick up cans to go. Brewery tours cover both the history of the building and how the beer is made, and are booked through their website.
Between the tasting room and the brewhouse is a beer garden with an outdoor bar under a pergola. The weekly lineup includes trivia on Wednesdays, an open mic on Thursdays and live music Friday through Sunday, so evenings here have a local, community feel. For a while the brewery even staged its own musical, Perry Loved Mary.
Christel Lake Lavender in Greenbank is about 15 minutes northwest, so a lavender visit and a flight in downtown Port Perry fit easily into one afternoon.
